If you’re reading this, you probably know who I am. In which case, please skip forward to the next paragraph. Ok hi new friend :) I’m Keegan Chambers. Singer/Songwriter. Independent artist. Also an actress sometimes. But for the purposes of this let’s stick with “independent artist”. Which basically means no one is paying me to make music. In fact, I am haemorrhaging money just hoping to one day wake up an “overnight success” as they say…
In an effort to promote my latest release, “Not Waiting”, I procured a list of 4,592 blogs that I would sift through to find the ones that might consider sharing the song on their platform. Thankfully the list was sorted by genre. So I went through the “All Genres” category and the “Pop” and “Rock” categories finding almost 100 of the blogs listed as either inactive, or not having posted for several months or more. It was a time consuming and tedious task.
Each blog page I landed on was a new adventure; a new scavenger hunt. Figuring out how they prefer to receive submissions, finding updated contact information, and most importantly, listening to the music they shared to determine whether or not my song would fit in.
I know these blog curators receive hundreds of submissions a day and I wanted my email to stand out. I wanted the reader to know I’d done my homework, and that I wasn’t just arbitrarily submitting some random ass song. So I created a spreadsheet with all of my findings including the names of one or two songs they’d shared on their blog which gave me reason to believe they might actually like my song.
I spent countless hours on this. In fact, it took me months. I listened to so much music, I felt like I was on the other side; like I was the one receiving all the submissions. Admittedly, sometimes, it was a bit of a stretch. Like there would be a piano ballad and a heavy metal song and I’m like well… Not Waiting is in between those two things so….
Some websites I came across just had zero female artists at all. Which I thought was interesting…
SO! Since I put so much work into selecting those songs, I thought I’d make a playlist about it.
I discovered some really incredible artists that are actually huge and somehow I’d never heard of them like Beabadobee. I started to feel like a bit of a fraud to be honest! Like, I should really be in the loop about this shit! LMAO
So, please enjoy “Sent u ‘Not Waiting’ bc u shared…”
It’s exactly 12 hours long including “Not Waiting”.
I’m not suuuuper into numerology but I did once borrow a numerology book from the Vancouver Library which I’ve never returned so I guess you could say I’m intrigued by it. Anyway, I looked up the meaning of the number 12 on the internet because who needs books anyways, and this is what it said…
The numerology number 12 resonates with creative and individualistic self-expression.
Seems pretty accurate.
